Drainage and Waterproofing

The roof membrane must be in good condition before you build a garden on top of it. If there's any doubt, have it inspected and repaired first. A roof garden built on a leaking roof will cause damage to the building below that's far more expensive to fix than the garden itself.

Drainage is non-negotiable. Water needs somewhere to go.

  • Use containers with drainage holes, not sealed planters
